On the back of a string of profile building and critically acclaimed, Ruby Goe’s individual and startlingly unique musical sensibilities are pushed to the fore once again on the brand new track from her forthcoming EP “Sq1”, an anthemic, twisted alt pop gem shot through with Goe’s trademark idiosyncrasies.
“Sq1” available on October 29th on Ruby’s label, Goe Music, is produced by Devil’s Gun (who have also produced Queen of Hearts, among others). “Sq1” sounds fresh and impossibly new, as much a clarion call as it is a bold statement of intent. Electronic beats and walloping synths careen and freefall over its luscious three minute running time, with Goe’s distorted vocals powering through many glorious hooklines before reaching the triumphant battlecry of a chorus, like something defiant and human trapped inside the machine. From start to thrilling finish, it is clear that Ruby has picked up the offbeat pop baton from the likes of Robyn, Lykke Li, Florence and the Machine and Santigold and sprinted off into the distance with it.
2012 has already been a stellar year for Ruby Goe – a year that has seen critical acclaim rise exponentially, along with the global launch of her bespoke jewellery line ByRogue. She is also making moves in the US, with exciting collaborations being recorded this month, before heading back for a new live show in London on October 8th at Barfly.
